Coutrallam is popular for its wide ranging waterfalls, located in the Western Ghats, 5 km (3.1 mi) from the nearest town Tenkasi and 59 km (37 mi) from the nearest city Tirunelveli. The falls receives its waters during the South-west monsoon from May to September, but the maximum amount of rainfall is received during the North-east monsoon during October to December.
There are private waterfalls. We arrange a stay at a resort which has got a private waterfalls inside. Its a small property at the village named Mekkari near Tenkasi. Only limited number of guests can stay at the property and the waterfalls is exclusive for them. This waterfalls inside the property is seasonal. Meaning, water is plenty during the season subject to good rainfall.
MEKKARAI is a village in the Tenkasi District, Tamil Nadu. The town is home to the Adavi Nayar Dam. The village of Makeri is on the border of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Paddy is cultivated. Mekkari appeared in the Kamalahasan movie 'Papanasam.
