Places of Interest:

Gangtok:

At an altitude of 1750m, Gangtok became the state capital in the mid 19th century and has undergone rapid development since then. The downtown area is dominated by huge government buildings decorated with traditional Buddhist symbols. Surrounded by Monasteries and Orchids, Gangtok is truly a traveler's delight. 

Gangtok to Lachen:

• Seven Sister Waterfall

Located 32 Kms from Gangtok, this seven tier waterfall is a visual beauty during the monsoons. A huge fall at the tail end of a rugged cliff, its thunderous sound vibrates through you. Definitely a photogenic spot to be captured forever.

• Singhik

A small hamlet town at about 1560m above sea level and 73 Km from Gangtok, this is the ideal place to take a perfect picture of the magnificent Mt Kanchenjunga in its full glory. With scenic view points surrounded by lush greenery, this town offers a desired break to travelers on a long journey.

Lachen:

• Chungthang Confluence

The confluence of Lachen Chu & Lachung Chu takes place in Chungthang valley and it is said to be blessed by Saint Padmasambhava, the patron saint of Sikkim.

• Thangu Valley

Located at 3960m & 35 Kms from Lachen, this alpine meadow on the banks of River Teesta is tranquil at its best. Lush green during summer with beautiful flowers & covered in snow during winters, this valley is blessed by Mother Nature herself.

• Chopta Valley

At 4000m above sea level & 39 Kms from Lachen, this valley is proof to the fact that even a barren landscape can look exotic when painted by natural forces. Spring brings with it an array of beautiful wildflowers to these untamed lands. Rivers flow abundantly from the melting snow snaking through this rugged terrain adding more beauty to it. 

• Gurudongmar Lake

Located at 5200m above sea level, the splendid Gurudongmar lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes at this height. With crystal clear waters & snow capped mountains, it attracts travelers from all around the world. The water is believed to have healing powers & the lake itself is considered as Holy by the locals.

Lachung:

At 3000m altitude, surrounded by majestic snow capped mountains on all sides, this small town is a famous stop for travelers exploring North Sikkim & Yumthang Valley in particular. Lachung means “Small Mountain”, an apt name for a hill town with numerous waterfalls, snowy peaks & a rugged landscape.

• Yumthang Valley

Located 140 Km north of Gangtok at an altitude of 3564m, this valley turns into a paradise during spring with the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary spreading out a carpet of flowers & hence its rightfully called “Valley of Flowers”. With colorfully decorated Yaks, hot springs & green meadows, this valley is a traveler’s delight.

• Yumesamdong or Zero Point

Situated close to the China border at 4724m altitude & 26 Km from Yumthang, Zero Point is literally where the roads of civilization come to an end. Oxygen density is lower here due to the altitude & it's an important factor to take into account. Only Indian nationals are allowed to visit this place due to its proximity to International borders.
